Further fast company added to Cupra family
Not one, but two new performance focused Cupra models joined the New Zealand range recently, with the arrival of the Leon hatchback and Sportstourer.
Hot on the heels of the arrival of the Cupra Formentor V 4Drive and VZ we covered in our last issue, Cupra New Zealand’s dynamic range of model options has doubled again in a short space of time with the debut of the Leon hatch and Sportstourer wagon.
The Cupra Leon VZ hatch presents a true ‘hot hatch’ proposition and is powered by a 221kW/400Nm version of the Volkswagen Group’s gutsy 2.0-litre petrol turbo four-cylinder engine, matched with a seven-speed DSG automatic.
Offering more practicality but not to the detriment of engaging performance, the Cupra Leon VZ Sportstourer gets a slightly more powerful 228kW version of the petrol turbo four, with the same torque and transmission. While the hatch is front-wheel drive, the Sportstourer adds 4Drive all-wheel drive underpinnings.
Performance aside, the other big news with these latest two Spanish specials is the impressive feature set of equipment offered in both.
Plenty of boxes have been ticked as standard, including LED headlights with auto high beam, a hands-free electric tailgate, triple-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital display and 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, a nine-speaker Beats Audio sound system, and special sports seats. Both cars receive 19-inch alloy wheels, while the Sportstourer wagon also gets gloss black roof rails as standard.
